Once more, No Man Sky continues its perpetual improvements with update 5.6, titled “Relics,” that lets players discover and fight for fossils to collect and show off.
The core of the update is new fossils that can represent “millions of possibilities for unique sponsors”—assumedly meaning they’re generated much like NMS’s other wildlife. You can put these new fossils up in your home to display them like a museum, too, or trade and haggle them for others.
But these fossils won't be taken so easily, as massive golem-like “guardians” will arise and defend these otherwise-abandoned skeletons. If you're willing to risk getting rocks thrown at you, you can also steal their "vigilant stones" as they slumber.
With this update also comes a new Expedition, which, as Expeditions often do, offers a chance to get hands-on with the new system for nifty limited-time rewards—this time, a giant dinosaur skeleton friend.
Also, there are huge improvements to Abandoned Mode, including free but damaged Multi-Tools and automatically unlocking purple systems. There are more fixes and changes on the official developer post.
