Ahead of the highly-anticipated Live Letter tomorrow and the “Seekers of Eternity” patch, Famitsu has dropped a hefty interview with Naoki Yoshida (a.k.a. “Yoshi-P,”) director and executive producer of Final Fantasy XIV. The chat goes over a lot of stuff, including some of the functionalities of upcoming content, as well as discussion of the plot.
For one, the team seems to recognize that everyone wants zoomies in major cities, so Yoshida says that they’ll be adding a ‘Jog’ function in lieu of always needing to sprint in cities. It’ll be slightly slower than Sprint, but it’ll be perpetual—which is good for those who haven’t leveled a Ranged DPS for that Peloton spam.
He gets into the philosophy and details of the upcoming major content additions, the battle-focused Crescent Isle and Cosmic Exploration for crafters and gatherers. Indeed, both of these pieces of content are meant to build upon what worked in prior duties such as Bozja, Eureka and Island Sanctuary. For the Crescent Isle specifically, we also know now that there’ll be a 48-player raid again, as well as an extra field in 7.4, much like how the Bozjan Southern Front was released.
As for the story, apparently Yoshida really wanted to scale back on the Final Fantasy 9 references that keep coming up (even on the special site) because he genuinely thinks FFIX is a masterpiece of its own. However, it seems that over the long term, there are some plot details coming that warrant a bit of homage.
Yoshida unpacks quite a bit more about the upcoming content in the interview, especially since it’s supposedly the biggest patch content-wise in the game’s history. And while this interview gets into the patch’s biggest addition, tomorrow’s Live Letter hopefully shows us some more granular stuff to look forward to.
