Square Enix has updated its recently-launched mini-site for patch 6.2, Buried Memory, coming for Final Fantasy XIV this month. While the release timing says "late August", the team is slowly revealing some of the details of what we can look forward to.

First up is a new intro to the update that hints at some of the story and related challenges and tasks to face.

“Five millennia ago, the great wyrm Azdaja vanished into the void, and for long years Vrtra had despaired of being reunited with his dear sister. With the encouragement of his people, however, he has found the resolve to search for her, and sets forth with the Warrior of Light for a world engulfed in Darkness…”

So it will be up to you to help him find this world of Darkness. No problem, right? There will, of course be additional  main scenario quests in which you play through this new development in the storyline.

Also in the pass will be Island Sanctuary, an island paradise just for you where you can let your minions run around and play, grow some crops, and just relax when not adventuring. And if you’re looking for a world stuck in darkness, you will probably need it.

Buried Memory will also bring a brand new dungeon, The Fell Court of Troia, a castle filled with voidsent. Made possible by finding the undersea voidgate, now you can face the results of its opening. Those looking for a challenge will also get the Containment Bay S1T7 (Unreal) Trial. “You hearken back to your fateful encounter with the dread eikon Sephirot, first pillar of the Warring Triad“

Also coming are additional changes that will expand the Duty Support system to five dungeons from A Realm Reborn and Heavensward, and some changes to trials.

For more, see the Buried Memory minisite over at Final Fantasy XIV.
