Faxion Online & Sean Dahlberg

Faxion Online & Sean Dahlberg

Recently one of Bioware's most visible community managers, Sean Dahlberg, left Star Wars: The Old Republic. For the past week or so, Sean has laid low but has now resurfaced as the Senior Designer at UTV True Games. UTV True Games, if you didn't know already, is working on the classic good vs evil game, Faxion Online. So what is Sean up to and what is happening with Faxion? Check it out!

Faxion Online is being built using the HeroEngine which I have a lot of familiarity with and the team has already done an incredible amount of work. Speaking of the team, there are a lot of familiar faces here… people I’ve worked with at Wolfpack, Stray Bullet, and BioWare and others I recognize from other companies. Everyone is serious about the work they are doing but not so serious as they have lost sight of what we are trying to make… a fun game! And that is what sold me on the place. It’s got a great crew that knows what they want to make.

I am also a fan of the subject-matter. While it is a battle between Heaven and Hell, it has that Family Guy / Dungeon Keeper type of humor (btw, if you’ve never played Dungeon Keeper 2, I’d highly recommend it… it’s hilariously fun). But in addition to that, Faxion wants to get back to micro-communities where you can (realistically) have some kind of relationship not just with people on your side but also those you fight against. Personally, that’s why I got into (online) gaming… the friends I made in Ultima Online and Everquest… the enemies… the battles… the grudges, guild alliances, guild wars… That is what made MMOs more fun (to me) than just multiplayer matches in other games.
