Fallout fans, it's time to quite literally gear up, because Fallout Day is officially here, and it's bringing some big news for Fallout 76 fans. The broadcast kicked off October 23rd, 2024 at 3pm EST, and there was a lot of anticipation about what we might hear. So, if you didn’t watch it live, it's time jump into the recap and see just how right (or hilariously wrong) we were.

Whether you're a vault dweller excited about the new season of the Fallout TV show or just keen on seeing what the future holds for Fallout 76, the broadcast was likely a little deflating due to how little information we received on some of our most sought after topics like Fallout 5, Prime Video’s Fallout show, and some were even hoping for updated or remastered versions of our older beloved titles like Fallout: New Vegas.

However, the very first Fallout Day broadcast started with a bit of a celebration of the franchise, touting that this past year has seen more players in the Fallout universe than ever before, with record numbers across all titles. Fallout 76 alone has reached an incredible milestone of 20 million players.

As part of the celebration, Fallout 76 will be free to play until October 29th, giving new players a chance to jump in and see what all the buzz is about. If you’re watching Fallout content online, there will be Twitch drops available—just watch a Fallout streamer for 15 minutes, and you’ll get some exclusive in-game goodies like including a code for the Rusted Pumpkin Jack-o-Light Candles which will be available until November 20th.

It doesn’t stop there. Until October 29th, there are discounts across all Fallout products, including a discount on Atoms in Fallout 76. So, if you’ve been eyeing some extra goodies for your wasteland adventures, now's the perfect time to grab them.

Even Fallout Shelter is getting in on the fun. A free bundle is being offered that includes characters from the show—Lucy, Maximus, and the Ghoul. It’s a nice nod to the broader Fallout universe and a great way for fans to connect different parts of the franchise, but this special free bundle is only being offered today.

Creative Director of Fallout 76 Jon Rush jumped into the broadcast and showed off what's coming next in the world of Fallout 76. He highlighted that there have been 50 free updates so far in Fallout 76, detailing many of the expansions they've made as the team celebrated the staggering 51.5 million CAMP builds players have created in game.

To start off the new content, in December, Fallout 76 is set to receive a major update, introducing CAMP Pets—fuzzy friends to join your camp, including one cat and one dog. Yes, you can pet them! You’ll also be able to dress them up and place pet-specific furniture around your CAMP for them to play with, and the team plans to continue creating new pets in the future.

In addition to pets, player titles will be added in the December update. You can earn these titles by completing quests and challenges, giving you a new way to show off your achievements in the wasteland.

However, that’s not all you’ll see in the update. Players will soon be headed to the Gleaming Depths—a new MMO-style dungeon designed for up to four highly geared, high-level players. This abandoned Enclave research lab where the phenomenon ultra-genesis, created through the underground ultracite, will challenge players to fight through several demanding encounters and uncover the dangers lurking within.

Once inside—it's win or die. The dungeon includes multiple boss stages, with a Guardian as the first boss, followed by a Drill Defense section where you’ll meet a crazy mole miner stalker. Then you’ll face off against Enclave Squad Epsilon. Finally, players will need to delve deeper into the lab to confront the Ultracite Terror—the biggest boss in Fallout 76, and possibly the largest in any Fallout game ever.

Completing this challenge will earn players legendary rewards, including four-star weapons and armor, as well as the ability to craft a four-star mod onto a three-star legendary item, meaning players will be expanding their weapons and armor, creating new min-maxed builds and preparing for what’s to come in 2025.

Speaking of 2025, players will have the chance to undergo a Ghoulification quest, allowing them to transform into a ghoul. As a ghoul, you'll be immune to radiation, with exposure to rads healing you and granting special powers.

However, you’ll have a feral meter—and when pushed too far, you could become one of those crazed feral ghouls your mother warned you about. There will also be ghoul-specific perk cards, opening entirely new playstyles.

Being a Ghoul isn’t all new powers and radiation immunity, NPCs and factions won’t look at you the same way if you’re a ghoul, adding new narrative options that make the game feel almost entirely new.

Luckily, becoming a ghoul isn’t permanent. If you change your mind, there will be a way to revert back to human form, so keep an eye out as there's a lot more in store as the team approaches the ghoul update, and it's clear that Fallout 76 is planning to continue to mutate in exciting ways.

As the team celebrates their 20th year working on the Fallout franchise, they had nothing but love for the fans of the series and called on players to jump on Reddit or Discord and share feedback on what they'd like to see in the Fallout world in the future. While it may be a little disappointing that we didn’t get any Fallout 5, remaster, or any Amazon Prime Show information (not even a plot?), it’s hard to argue that the first Fallout Day Broadcast was anything but a success.
