Fallout 76's Latest Update Attempted to Stop Raid Boss Farming, But Failed Within the First 24 Hours

Bethesda’s latest Fallout 76 patch (Update 1.7.17.9) was packed with fixes aimed at improving stability, quality of life, general gameplay, and of course, the team attempted to fix some of the issues plaguing the Gleaming Depths raid. However, despite an ambitious attempt to address players farming the EN06 boss has already backfired spectacularly.

The latest update for Fallout 76 included dozens of tweaks to enhance gameplay across Appalachia. Key highlights from the update include improved pet spawns and other fixes for C.A.M.P. items like the Plastiform Blue Star and Mounted Jackalope Head.  Notably, the Scorchbeast and Scorchbeast Queen no longer endlessly spam their sonic blast attacks, (this isn't the first time they've had to fix that), while the "Seismic Activity" event received an update to ensure the Ultracite Titan corpse despawns before a new encounter begins.

A major focus of the update was to curb exploitative farming during The Gleaming Depths raid. Specifically, Bethesda updated the EN06 Guardian fight to electrify the entire platform, and bring about electrifying the platform sooner, intending to prevent players from exploiting terrain advantages to trivialize the encounter. Yet, players have already found a workaround, and they found it in less than a day of the patch going live.

By dropping power armor frames (with a full set of power armor) and standing on them, they completely bypass the electric field. Using this method, players wield auto axes to cut down the Guardian with ease. Ironically, this tactic has made farming the boss even faster than before, as players can target the guardians weakpoint while it's spawning, immediately dropping the bosses shield before it can attack. This new way of farming further exacerbates the issue Bethesda hoped to resolve.

This swift circumvention highlights the ongoing tug-of-war between Bethesda and the game’s most dedicated players, who continually find creative ways to exploit mechanics. Even worse, players have found ways to skip all of the bosses in the Gleaming Depths and go straight to the final boss if they so choose, which underscores the many ways in which players have been abusing the many bugs in Fallout 76.

With the much anticipated Ghoul Update on the horizon, it's quite possibly the most exciting time to be a Fallout 76 player, but who knows what new exploits await in the future.
