The Atomic Shop is the premium currency "mall" in Fallout 76. Players use real world money to purchase the virtual currency called Atoms, though Atoms can also be earned in-game. Currently, players can purchase 500 Atoms for about $5, 1100 Atoms for $9.99, 2400 Atoms for about $20 and 5000 Atoms for $40. Wily holiday elves on the Fallout 76 Reddit, however, are none too happy about the prices for limited time Christmas items (and others) in the shop.
Here are a few examples:
- Bundle: Comin' to Town with decorations and Mr. / Mrs. Claus outfits - $20 (this is, by the way, a price reduction)
- Christmas emote package - $20
- Red Rocket Mega Sign -- $17.75
Most of us agree that the pricing is out of hand in the atom shop. but this santa outfit set just dropped at $20.00. That's $20.00... 1/3 of the full game. Twice as much as most DLCs combined. I don't know how else to express it. Far Harbor took me like 2 months to complete alone, and i'm pretty sure I paid $20.00 for the entire Fallout 4 season pass (all DLCs). This santa outfit will be relevant for less than 2 weeks. COME ON BETHESDA! Fallout76 is already selling for $26.00 at some retailers!
Of course, the easy answer given by many is "don't buy it", however Lucky5150 clarifies that spending nearly one-third of the game's price overall is too much:
I just think that the pricing on these items is borderline offensive. And I can see the line trending upwards if enough people spend Atoms on this the next items will be 2500, then 3000, essentially charging 25 and 30 dollars for skins and chairs. Thus this thread is my opinion that the items are overpriced.
It is worth noting that players can earn Atoms in game but many players find that the stream of in-game Atoms dries up once reaching the endgame.
What are your thoughts on the Atomic Shop pricing?
