Fallout 4’s next gen update is out and it’s not going over so well with the player community.
Two years in the making and 14+ gigs in size, the update has expectedly broken many mods and also resulted in the indefinite delay of Fallout London. So, what did players get in exchange? Not a whole lot, particularly on PC.
The newly added ultrawide support is half-baked and will require players to use mods to sort it out, just as they did before. The game’s 60 FPS limit, where the Creation Engine ties its physics to the game’s FPS and tends to fall apart above 60 FPS, is still a thing. The “Weapon Debris” setting that has crashed the game when enabled by users with RTX series NVIDIA cards is also alive and well.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players have a bit more to look forward to, though this too has not been without issue. PlayStation Plus members who got the game free via their subscription were being asked to spend $20 to purchase the game in order to get the update, though it appears members who have an active PS+ Extra subscription are able to access it. Bethesda stated that they have “no information” on PS5 Catalogue or PS+ Essentials.
