Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis has released its big Hellfire Vanguard update. This update brings the fourth region into the game, chapter 4 of the main story, new characters and weapons, and of course a level cap increase to help with all of the challenges ahead.

This update adds the new region of Stia, a volcanic open field region with several new areas of interest. There’s an ARKS base, the Outer Area of Mediola, and the Dreisen Plant. There are lava pools all around the region and lava bombs that rain down from the sky. Since PSO2 added a mechanic by which you can throw things, you can also pick up the lava bombs and throw them to cause damage. The region also includes battle squads of Gigantix and Recon Gigants to fight and a brand new Trial.

If you've been waiting for a continuation of the story, that is now live with chapter 4 that lets you Explore Halpha and work with New characters that you will meet in order to investigate the region and figure out if Dark Falz is to be found somewhere in Stia. These new characters include Glen and Kanui, who you’ll get the chance to work with. As you complete these story quests and new Urgent Quest and Courses, you'll get the opportunity to unlock level 70 and new skills for all of the classes.

There are also new eight-star Rarity Effulgent and the Kouklophis weapon series that you can get your hands on at weapons traders.

Overall, this latest region should present some challenges and offers a much different environment than somewhere like Kvaris. So if  the frigid snow and ice wasn’t your thing, maybe the constant dangers of flowing lava are a better fit?

Head to Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis for more on the update.
