The latest producer’s letter for EverQuest has just been published. In it, Head of Studio Jenn Chan gives a little bit of a year in review, some details on the next expansion, and new updates for the servers and clients.
This year, EverQuest has seen the launches of Mischief and Thornblade, the two newest Timelocked Progression servers, the return of multiple annual events, and new spins on events. Now, beta testing is going on for the next expansion, Terror of Luclin. While the expansion doesn’t have a firm release date yet, preorders are now open and release will happen next month. This marks the 28th expansion for EverQuest overall, and even with this there’s another surprise.
After the expansion is released, Darkpaw Games will turn its attention to introducing 64-bit clients and servers for EverQuest. This has been in the works for a while, and Chan promises more about it soon. They’re looking for an early 2022 launch, with beta to take place before that time.
For those in the community that have been asking about the possibility of server merges, Chan acknowledges that the team is currently gathering data for the time being on the status of the servers and what might be the best path for changes. A full update has been promised for the first half of next year.
As we head into the final weeks of 2021, there’s a Darkpaw Games team for this coming weekend’s ExtraLife charity event. Inside the game, we can look forward to the returning Raid, Raid, Raid! event and the latest edition of Frostfell. There are going to be a couple of sales as well, for Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and the holidays, in case you’re looking for some fun items or upgrades.
