EverQuest II's Lure of Darkness Game Update Set for Open Beta Next Week

EverQuest II’s next big update, Lure of Darkness (GU128) is getting an open beta next week ahead of its launch in April.

The beta test will start on March 25th, and any EQ2 player that owns the Scars of Destruction expansion can participate by downloading the beta build when it's open. G128 is coming next month, so based on previous betas, the beta test may run until just before the update actually launches. 

During the beta, you’ll get to test out a whole bunch of new content, including a new Overseer season, new raid dungeons, new quests and missions, and new tradeskill content. There’s also a contested dungeon in both Solo and Heroic. 

If you decide to participate you can try all of that new content as you go along, whether you choose to copy a live character into the beta build or if you choose to create a new character.   In the beta announcement, the team issues the usual types of warnings for testers, including that they’ll wipe the beta server as needed and none of this carries over into the GU128 launch.

As usual though, it’s a way to have an impact on future content and get an idea of what to expect when the update does roll out next month.
