EVE Online of ten years ago and today look very different thanks to some initiatives by CCP, which the studio highlights in its latest blog post. The “EVE Evolved” initiative focuses on bringing the game up to date with the latest technologies to make it perform and look better, including an upgrade to DirectX 12.
Most recently, EVE Online integrated its Quasar infrastructure for local chat. First introduced several years ago, Qasar is a proprietary in-house tech that aims to improve the network messaging that runs many of EVE’s most integral systems. After mass testing and integration, Qasar tech in local chat promises to make a difference in how players communicate.
If you’re into these technical deep dives, the next updates get a little more into the nitty-gritty of recent ship-related redesigns and the SKINR tech. CCP promises a new blog coming soon that will “will dissect the technical challenges they imposed, and how they were solved with the ultimate goal of bringing your ships to life in ways you’ve never seen before” Meanwhile, a live discussion stream will take place on CCP TV on February 20 to delve into the SKINR custom skin tool.
Plus, the team shouts out the EVE Swagger Interface, which essentially allows devs to interface with EVE Online’s API for third-party tools (such as, yes, Excel sheet managers). It seems the infinite growth goes for both players and devs nowadays, lending infamy to the game’s already-timeless reputation.
