EVE Online is a flurry of activity, both player-made and developer-led, this weekend, as a new mystery will start to be unveiled in Altrinur, while one of EVE Online's biggest alliances announced an unprecedented move.
As the region of Zarzakh is still feeling the effects of the Drifter seige from last month, its emanation locks keeping the region's highway throughout New Eden locked down, a new mystery is being teased in the system of Altrinur that seems to be connected to the structure players discovered decloaking in the midst of the gravity hazard.
In an in-universe report by the Scope, the mystery in Altrinur will be unveiled at 15:00 EVE time (11 am EDT/8 am PDT) tomorrow, with players on the EVE forums reporting a mysterious note that was sent to capsuleers that got close to the cloaked structure teasing something in the system a few days back. While tomorrow's event likely won't see the structure fully revealed, because it feels related the anticipation for what it is already seems brewing with players.
However, this isn't even the biggest news to come out of the EVE Online weekend, as we've seen Goonswarm, one of the largest and most powerful player alliances in EVE Online's long history, announced that it was leaving its homeland of Delve and moving its operations to Tenefris.
Goonswarm and Delve have a long history, with the alliance fighting in the region going as far back as the Great War against Band of Brothers. Now, however, Asher Elias, the leader of the Imperium, made the announcement in a State of the Goonium message over the weekend. The move is in response to the sovereignty changes made by EVE Online's latest expansion, Equinox, which will be mandatory by the end of the month, though in the announcement Asher claims this move was in development before the Null changes were announced.
However, MMO blogger Whilem Arcturus on Ancient Gaming Noob states that the move is justified by Asher as it will move Goonswarm closer to its long-time enemy, PanFam, resulting in more content.
"The reasoning given at the SOTG was that the new location… our primary staging system will be in UALX-3 in Tenerifis… will put us on the front line with PanFam, moving us closer to content and putting us between PanFam and smaller alliances in the Imperium."
It's a rather big move, and it is one that feels in direct response to something the game developers have implemented to "shake up" NullSec, even if Asher claims that it was in "development" before those changes were made known. With so much history wrapped up in Delve, it'll be interesting to see if this is Goonswarm's last hurrah in the region, or if we'll see this historic battleground in EVE Online's history become home to even more fleet battles and wrecks in the coming years.
