EVE Online is ending May with a bang, as the long-awaited documentary, Belonging: An EVE Fanfest documentary, has finally been released. Announced alongside this is the news that CCP Games has a new in-house band for the Third Decade: Crowd Kon7rol.
First things first: the documentary. Belonging: An EVE Fanfest Documentary is the first of two documentaries about the MMORPG coming out in 2023. Filmed and produced by gaming outlet The Escapist, Belonging was filmed over the course of EVE Fanfest 2022, showcasing the convention and the community around it in detail. A second documentary, The Making of EVE Online, will be coming later this, premiering at EVE Fanfest 2023 itself in September.
Via this morning's press release, CCP Games CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson says it "captures the magnificence of the EVE community."
“Belonging: An EVE Fanfest Documentary captures the magnificence of the EVE community. It shows how Fanfest is unlike any other gathering – it’s where in-game alliances are formed or rent asunder, and where the bonds of lifelong friendship are forged or renewed, creating an experience you won’t find anywhere else in the world Fanfest 2023 is shaping up to be the largest and most symbolic community gathering in CCP’s history. It’s the perfect way to celebrate EVE’s historic 20th anniversary.”
Also unveiled this morning was a new in-house band, Crowd Kon7rol. EVE Online has had multiple in-house bands, most recently the incredibly popular Permaband, however, the new band will be ushering in the third decade for the MMO. Their first single, "On Top of the World" debuted this morning with a new music video, which we've embedded below.
EVE Online is celebrating its 20th anniversary in big ways this year, with it's first of two expansions coming next month, two documentaries, and just announced this morning a 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition of EVE Online. Made in partnership with Limited Run, the Collector's Edition celebrates the MMO's "history, legacy and community." Pre-orders will begin on July 7th, 2023.
RIP Permaband. Wrecking Machine is still a banger.
