CCP Games laid out its 2024 roadmap today, with the developer aiming to bring two expansions in 2024 to EVE Online, as well as a new map for its FPS module, EVE Vanguard.
Building on the team's work last year, which saw the Icelandic developer release two expansions, multiple new features, ships and the incredibly engaging Insurgency system, CCP Games is looking to be just as ambitious this year. In 2024, we should be seeing two new expansions, one coming in the Summer while the other is slated for Winter. The new expansions aren't really detailed in Game Director Snorri "CCP Rattati" Arnarsson and Creative Director Bergur "CCP Burger" Finbogasson's letter to the community. Still, they do tease that the need to own and protect space is about to "rise."
"What we can say is exciting new technology and resources will give players the opportunity to build and customize their space in nullsec, creating new conflict drivers and objectives. Bold and lucrative opportunities will arise for established corporations and alliances, but also for small opportunists that can attack vulnerable areas to gain resources. One thing is certain, the value of owning and defending space is set to rise. "
The letter also touches on improvements coming to EVE Online's SKINR system, which was introduced with Viridian, one of the two expansions launched last year. The summer expansion is slated to expand the SKINR system to ships themselves, allowing for freer customization of capsuleer's hulls to personalize them, or even color coordinate on the battlefield with alliance members. The letter also touches on Corporation Projects, which will see the expansion of reward types in 2024.
Moving onto Vanguard, we already know of the multitude of tests that will take place throughout the early part of 2024, with the first starting next week. The team is aiming to bring a new map to Vanguard in June for Founder's Access players to take part in, as well as a new weapon mod feature with fittings "persistent across sessions." The team is already planning a mining prototype to come in March, so the first six months of 2024 should be interesting for those who want to go boots on the ground in New Eden.
