EVE Online is gearing up for its Upwell Consortium-themed expansion, Equinox, this June, and with it will come new ships for Capsuleers to use throughout space.
The new Equinox expansion brings four new industrial ships to fly, from a new Tech I Hauler, the Squall, to the Deluge, a Tech 2 Blockade Runner. These new ships are designed to enhance what fleets are able to haul and transport, especially those new resources coming with Equinox.
The Squall is an entry-level hauler, giving new players access to a capable industrial ship to help their corporations transport resources and reagents. Like the other Upwell ships, the Squall has defensive capabilities to hold its own if caught off guard by a roaming pirate band or a rival corporation.
The Deluge is a Tech II variation of the Squall, equipped with stealth capabilities at the expense of firepower and ship capacity. But this sleek blockade runner should help the Deluge evade enemies while out performing operations - and even slip by enemy lines undetected in the hands of a skilled pilot.
Meanwhile, the Squall is the basis of another of Upwell's new ships, the Torrent, which seems to be going the opposite direction of the Deluge. The Torrent adds more carrying capacity at the expense of mobility, and it can bring even more firepower to bear to help it in a fight. The Torrent also adds a fleet hangar to the mix, adding even more defensive capabilities.
The last ship, the Avalanche, is the largest of the bunch and is the first freighter in EVE Online to include high-power slots. According to the developers, the Avalanche can pack enough punch to rival even that of most battleships in the MMO. The Avalanche can also equip shield flex hardeners, another first for freighters.
EVE Online: Equinox is bringing a ton of new toys for nullsec players to use, including these new ships as well as new ways to interact with system sovereignty through the Sovereignty Hub. Equinox also brings more structures to the experience, from the Skyhook, which can extract the reagents players can use in the new Metenox Moon Drill platform, which should help take some of the tedium (at the cost of efficiency compared to refineries) of moon mining. The new expansion releases on June 11th.
