EVE Online Real-Money Value Packs Undergo Changes For Clarity and Utility

EVE Online has changed its real-money value packs to make them more transparent and align them with their actual use cases, with an accompanying blog post explaining both the changes and the philosophy behind them.

The official post by CCP addressed the challenges of the older value packs released in 2020, pointing out the “medal” naming system, the mix of confusing items for new players, and underutilized items for older players. Therefore, these newly-released value packs are meant to round out rewards for their stated use and re-affirm their value for the stated players.

Some of the revamped EVE Online value packs strip the old “starter pack” identity and more directly target veteran players, who were often using them anyway to get perks from supporting EVE Online. The pricing is more straightforward, and they trimmed the fat on what’s included.

As for the “‘true’ starter packs,” the team is working on packs that will, as the devs explain it, “ease new players into New Eden, introduce essential game concepts, and accelerate their progression,” acting as “a starter product that experienced players would recommend.” Hoping for a low starting point and actually useful stuff, they’re experimenting with figuring out what’ll actually be useful for new players (and for veterans trying to “onboard new pilots into their doctrines more quickly”), and they’re looking to users on Discord for feedback.

Finally, the Identity Packs are getting a lot more focus. They’re mixing new and old designs, of course, and they also explicitly state they want to bring on more creations from recognized EVE Online community artists.

“In recent months, various hypotheses have been tested around effective SKINR component sales, leading to new insights into live-ops strategies and ways to further streamline the journey towards sequencing your first SKIN,” the post explains further.

Beyond this, it doesn’t seem any other aspects of EVE Online’s monetization has changed—for now.

This is the latest of posts addressing the continuing, much-necessary upkeep and modernization of the decades-old game that has brought crime legends to (fictional) life. At the very least, they won’t have to worry about the community having its back for now, as the annual EVE Fanfest sold out in record time this week.
