Announced last week, CCP Games have given capsuleers the details on how they can help out with the Australian wildfires raging on the continent. PLEX for GOOD will see CCP donate the real world monetary value of any PLEX donated within the event timeframe to relief funds to benefit victims directly.
PLEX for GOOD was kicked off originally in 2005 to raise money to help with the South East Asian tsunami victims and has had several campaigns over the years since. According to CCP, the EVE Online community has raised over $470K USD for charitable causes around the world.
PLEX for GOOD will provide a way for players to donate PLEX, one of the in-game currencies you buy with real-life money in EVE Online, to a CCP representative and the monetary value of that PLEX will be directly donated by CCP to Australian relief funds. CCP is teaming up with the Red Cross in Australia to provide help and relief to victims.
PLEX for GOOD will run from today through Sunday, January 26, ending at 23:59:59 UTC. As far as how to donate, CCP has laid out everything in a blog post in detail.
EVE players can contract PLEX in-game to the character CCP PLEX for GOOD and the real-world monetary value of all PLEX collected will be donated by CCP to the Icelandic Red Cross at the conclusion of the campaign on behalf of EVE Online players. The Icelandic Red Cross will ensure that the donated money is delivered to their counterparts in the Australian Red Cross where it will then be deployed to aid their humanitarian efforts in bushfire affected areas.
CCP is asking capsuleers to respect a minimum donation of 100 PLEX, citing the need to keep "processing of donations as efficient as possible." To get PLEX, you can either buy it directly from the EVE website, or in game on the marketplace using ISK (the in-game currency). If you already have PLEX in your vault, you can transfer that as well.
Additionally, the EVE Online community is raising PLEX to donate through in-game events. One such event, Brawl for Brushfires, is a charity Battlecruiser free-for-all that will see capsuleers "slug it out" to raise PLEX for the charity donation.
