The Eternal Tombs team released a new teaser showing magic (and more of the world, flora and fauna) within the upcoming game.
The teaser opens up with a narrator, a father giving some warnings about the use of magic to his son. “My son,” he begins, “never conjure up magic from within yourself. You must only use magical items and The power contained within them”. The father's warning is stern and there's a note of desperation in his voice when he warns the Sun that if he doesn't listen to this warning his life will be full of darkness and despair. For a game set to feature live game masters, this is a real potential to come.
That's quite an intro to a magic teaser, but as we're hearing the narration, we are swept over various locations in the game, from towns, to caves, turning over ominous looking statues, and buildings. All of this before we get to a peek at any of the actual magical abilities one might wield if they decide to go in that direction in Eternal Tombs. And potentially risk all that great darkness and despair.
The teaser takes its time in giving us that setup before showing a caster using a number of abilities. First, to attack a deer-like creature (called a Dire Ulfur) with fire magic in a wooded clearing near what looks like a town, to lure it in for attack by the character’s melee weapon. After this, we get to see other examples of magic use, including more aggro, green glowing magic set on the ground, luring mobs, and attacking other people.
If you are someone who does like casting in an MMORPG, this is a very short peek at what some of the skills look like, as well as a peek into the world the team is creating. Yet, it is a teaser, so we’ll have to wait for more info on the systems in detail. Possibly when the team holds pre-alpha tests sometime in the near future, which you can sign up for.
