Zenimax Online Studios previewed the Lair of Maarselok, one of the dungeons in the upcoming ESO Scalebreaker DLC.
Mike Finnigan, ESO’s dungeon lead, described Maareselok, the dragon antagonist, thusly,
“Maarselok exudes corruption. It seeps into everything he touches, from the ground to the trees and plants and then to the animals. Needless to say, a society built on respecting nature is at odds with this type of corruption. It threatens their entire reason for existing.”
As you delve into the dungeon with Selene, a forest spirit, and her captor, Warlock Carindon, you will discover this decay for yourself. Again, Mike Finnigan,
“Visually we wanted to represent the corruption within the Dungeon as otherworldly and unnatural. As players progress through the dungeon, they will see more and more of the corrupting influences throughout, and it lends an alien feel to the environments.”
You’ll face corrupted animal and plant life, including giant spiders, hoarvors, and stranglers. You’ll also find the old Bosmer (wood elves) party who went into the dungeon prior to you, and learn their fate,
“In addition to the corrupted wildlife, the previous expedition of Bosmer which was sent to deal with Maarselok are also now a threat,” explains Finnigan. “They have been corrupted, and players need to break that corruption the best way possible—by beating it out of them!”
There are new achievements up for grabs, including a Dragon’s Defilement set, mementos, and new furnishings. Check out the full post here. Scalebreaker launches for PC on August 12.
