If you love MMOs but can't stand all those pesky players, Indie studio Burgee Media has just launched a demo for their upcoming game, Erenshor, a single-player MMO-style experience that draws hefty inspiration from popular games like RuneScape and EverQuest. In Erenshor, the team is attempting to give you the nostalgia of a classic MMO without having to keep up with the content locusts blazing through everything before you can get to it.
The new demo has released as part of October's Steam Next Fest which runs until October 21st, and it will introduce players to a brand-new area called Shivering Step—a haunted, spooky region that the team believes will be a perfect addition to the Halloween season. With six new bosses, over 25 new items to equip, and around 12 hours of new gameplay, there's plenty for solo adventurers to sink their teeth into here.
For those confused on what a single-player MMO looks like, Erenshor is designed entirely for solo play but still emulates a busy, bustling world. Instead of other players, the game is filled with "Simulated Players," or SimPlayers, who act like real players would. They’ll trade, join your raids, give you quests, and even remember how you treat them, so you can be naughty or nice without worrying about pixel feelings. It’s an MMO-like world, but with none of the online requirements or scheduling conflicts you have with your guildies.
Your simulated friends will not only help you through content, but they'll level up alongside you and even bother you for some loot drops if you happen to find anything worthwhile. If you’re curious about Erenshor, the demo is available now and might appeal to players out there that are looking for the MMO style adventures of yore but not the grind and time constraints of being social.
