After only a day of release, the free-to-play “MMO squad-based shooter” Enlisted, presently in Early Access versions, has already stopped its Steam release as Gaijin Network Ltd. addresses a number of issues that have arisen.
“We’ve removed the Early Access version of Enlisted: Reinforced from the Steam Store for now,” a post pushed onto Steam explains, which was also sent to players via email. “All users who purchased a Steam access pack for Enlisted: Reinforced can continue playing via Steam. Meanwhile, we’ll do our best to assess what we can do to address the issues you raised.”
The post also includes a very uncanny picture of a cat with an army helmet on, which is very pretty obviously made by some sort of machine learning image generator.
One of the most egregious issues that has come up is its purchase and download scheme. The default option to acquire the game on Steam is with a DLC pack; the game is officially free at the moment, especially during its Early Access stages.
Further, the Steam version wouldn’t let players link their Gaijin accounts that were already being used for this game, locking players out of their accounts after the DLC purchase.
The game is also listed as “Enlisted: Reinforced” on Steam, while the standard version on the other independent version is simply “Enlisted.” At the very least, this could cause some confusion and be seen as deception, though tactics like these are usually to spark new interest and/or push a Steam game further up in rankings.
For those that are actually enjoying Enlisted via either Steam or the official launcher, the game is still technically running and free to play.
