Embracer Group has sold Saber Interactive to Beacon Interactive for $247 million. Beacon Interactive is controlled by Saber co-founder Matthew Karch.
This divestment by Embracer Group will result in the cessation of operations in Russia, which the company says will improve its cash flow, reduce capital expenditures, net debt, and its future liabilities.
Saber Interactive will keep all Saber Interactive branded studios as well as DIGIC, Fractured Byte, Mad Head Games, New World Interactive, Nimble Giant Entertainment, Sandbox Strategies, Slipgate Ironworks, and 3D Realms as part of the deal.
As for Embracer, the group will retain Saber subsidiaries 34BigThings, 4AGames, Aspyr, Beamdog, Demiurge Studios, Shiver, Snapshot Games, Tripwire Interactive, Tuxedo Labs, and Zen Studios.
Embracer announced that Saber would have the option to acquire 4AGames and Zen Studios from the group and not long after Saber CEO Matthew Karch revealed in an internal memo sent to staff (obtained by Bloomberg News’ Jason Schreier) that Saber would indeed acquire 4AGames and Zen Studios from Embracer. If true, this would increase the total purchase price to $500 million.

According to Schreier, the long awaited KOTOR remake is also going to Saber, though the project will be jointly held by the two companies due to the fact Embracer will be retaining Aspyr Media.
