The Embers Adrift team has released a new “State of the Game” update blog, with reflections on the switch to a buy to play model, recent updates, and new stuff, including updatesto the King’s Keep.

The decision to go to a buy to play model was preceded by several successful free play weekends that were well attended and introduced new players to the game. Stormhaven Studios has emphasized that their team is small, and they didn't want to have microtransactions or other distractions for the team to work on, instead preferring the team be able to simply work on the game. Of course, game development isn't cheap, so they're hoping that more players will discover Embers Adrift, return to check out the new content, perhaps subscribe, or even gift a subscription to help support development.

As for that development, in addition to going buy to play, last month, the team added a new region called Highland Hills, designed for players in their 20s and 40s. They also added a new creature, the Woodclaimed, new interactable lore objects to discover all over the world, and additional changes and customization options.

This week, a new update added the King’s Keep and a quest that serves  as the culmination of a storyline that is rooted in the earliest part of the player journey. Refresh your memory, find out what’s happening in the “Realm” of the “King” (as the team writes them) and take part in the new  level 40 content that also features new  rare mobs and  some new combat encounter tech.

Several tech and design improvements also came with the update, including an updated engine version and improved performance. The team also updated some equipment visuals, and added Bonus to let you travel main thoroughfares faster. There's also a new emergency item recovery system. if you somehow need to abandon your bag when you're out adventuring, or disappears, you can potentially recover one or two items for a cost.
