Embers Adrift added Alchemy with the latest update, letting you use Ember to empower your combat skills in new ways. The update also added new customization options, including new hair, and an updated roadmap.

Alchemy is something the Stormhaven Studios team has planned to add for a while, and now it is finally included. Ember is the source of magic in the world, rising to the surface with the Great Sundering. In this world, Ember is a natural phenomenon.

“We are now in what the team calls Alchemy Phase II, with Alchemy Phase I being things like teleportation via Ember Monolith, Emberdrift, and Ember Ring. As well as things like ashen variants of creatures, Ember Ring healing, crafting with flux, creature mutation, and all the other ways Ember is naturally presenting itself in the world.”

In order to use Alchemy, you'll need to account for the Strategic decision making since using something like ember essence will come with trade-offs like increased execution time and Essence consumption. There will also be cooldowns to consider, and essentially this serves as another way to deepen combat. For example, you might take advantage of some things like increased damage multipliers, better healing, and other options like attack resist and damage conversion. Since this adds something potentially different to all skills, the team will be looking to balance this actively.

There are new hairstyle options for customization, along with a new subscriber perk that is a single cosmetic slot to the character screen that will enable the visual of the item slotted in there without the stats. It's like a sideways transmog. The update also enables custom chat colors with a workaround and a promise to provide a simpler option later.

As for the updated roadmap, seven new zones are planned, including one with a codename to avoid spoilers. Alchemy phase 3 is on the way, fishing, a mail system, three new creature types, and many more quests including a quest line for the Others.  they say they're done doing dozens of quests that simply need to be added, so expect those. this isn't everything they are working on, but it gives an idea of where things are going.

The first anniversary event continues through November 5th, with all of the subscriber perks unlocked for anyone with a free account.
