Last night, Elyon's developers took to Reddit to answer questions from the community as they head into the upcoming closed beta test scheduled for next month. The Ask Me Anything, or AMA, ranged from topics pertaining to PVP, PVE, the servers Elyon will be hosted on, as well as questions about the cash shop and pricing structure.
Elyon is gearing up for its Western release, which the team confirmed players should expect in the second half of 2021, and Kakao and Bluehole hosted a Reddit AMA on the r/MMORPG subreddit last night. The team answered some of the burning questions from the community eager for information, so let's dive into some of the highlights.
For PVP, Elyon will have both Open World and instanced PVP. This means, according to EP Hyungjun, that while "[player killing] is possible in the field" the team is limiting it so it doesn't become "stressful in essential gameplay." This sounds that while PKing is going to happen, there will be areas where players won't have to worry about it as much when trying to go about their business with progression.
PVP will also involve up to 200 players, effectively 100 vs 100 battles between players. PVE, however, will see dungeons built for 5 players, while there will be areas called Dimensional Portal content which can see up to 50 players come together for PVE content. The team elaborated a bit on that Dimension Portal content in a later post:
You can look forward to the wars between each realm in the Dimensional Portal, where you battle over defeating bosses. In addition, there's also a PvP battle between servers where you can fight to become the ultimate PvP player.- EP Hyungjun
Another comment that came up was flying mounts. If you remember back to the earliest days of Elyon's reveal, back with it was the MMORPG formerly known as Ascent: Infinite Realm, Airships played a huge role in both PVE and PVP content. The team hasn't directly mentioned whether the Airship combat we saw in 2017 will make a return, but during the AMA they did confirm the existence of airship content players could board together in lieu of personal flying mounts.
The team also touched on servers, stating that just like the beta servers there will be one EU server hosted in Amsterdam and another in North America on the West Coast in California. Oceanic region players will need to log into the NA server according to the developers.
Elyon's devs also answered questions about the cash shop, such as the items players can expect to see when the MMORPG goes live, including things like pets that can "help pick up loot" as well as provide stat boosts, outfits, and convenience items like inventory space, buffs and more.
You can check out the full AMA on the MMORPG subreddit. In case you missed it, Elyon's closed beta will be coming in May, scheduled to start May 6th here in the West.
