Today, Elite Dangerous releases the Type-8 update, adding the first Type-8 freighters to the store, a slew of engineering changes, and bug fixes.
While there are some needed fixes and balance changes in the update, the new ships are the highlight. The Lakon Type-8 Transporter has been added and holo screens around the world will show ads for the transporter. The new ships that have launched into the store, and their prices are:
- Type-8 Transporter Stellar (33,000 Arx)
- Type-8 Transporter Standard (16,520 Arx)
- Passenger Jumpstart - Beluga Liner (25,500 Arx)
- Bounty Hunter Jumpstart - Vulture (25,500 Arx)
This is just the first round of ships that Frontier will add, but these add new options when you need some new trade vessels. They are the largest medium-class ship available.
Accompanying the new ships is a change - the inclusion of the Python MkII, which was originally, and contentiously, released as a real money-only ship, in the general Shipyard stock for Elite Dangerous Odyssey players.
There are a number of adjustments and bug fixes, including some visual effects that didn't trigger properly, adjusted orbit lines in some instances that were not displaying clearly, fixes to crash issues, and release fees from impound for pre-built ships will now be calculated correctly.
There's also a series of engineering changes, including tweaks to the engineering rule set and systems, some updated unlock requirements, and some additional changes to recipes. If you contribute to taking a Thargoid or invasion controlled system, rewards will now include engineering materials. Those rewards will be determined on your individual contribution level, and consist of randomly picked materials from each material category. You'll only be able to reach the micro resource cap, so keep an eye on your inventory.
The full patch notes outline all of the details, including all of the engineering changes.
