Elite Dangerous is shaping up to have big updates on the horizon for eager starfarers. The first details of these updates were discussed in the first edition of “Frontier Unlocked,” in which community leads discussed the major details of Frontier Games’ title updates.
Firstly, Powerplay 2.0 sounds like it’s making good progress for a mid-year release. While there are no major details yet for the rework of game-wide faction war, we at least know now it’ll arrive in the summertime with Update 19.
With the upcoming updates, it was also claimed that there’ll be help in tackling the ever-looming threat of Titans, gargantuan vessels deemed impossible to defeat as things currently stand. Like much else in the update, the details are vague, and so players have been left wondering how it’ll be done—and what’ll come after they overcome this challenge after Update 18.
The first of four new ships in 2024 was also unveiled during the stream, this one being the Python Mk2, which is said to be an Eagle variant “in more than just the name.” For now, the model of the ship was shown, though it’s likely this’ll be a combat ship due to its nimble size and engines.
Finally, the community leads teased an entirely new feature that’ll arrive with Update 19 as well. No details were given on it besides that it’s an entirely new, separate feature, but it was promised to release this year and no sooner.
Elite Dangerous is known as one of the MMORPG genre’s biggest dark horses, and the continuous updates to the space epic have proven it’ll keep up that shelf life. It’s playable via Steam, Epic, Playstation and Xbox.
