Elite Dangerous Devs Heading to 'the Next Era' but Not Until Late 2020

Elite Dangerous will be getting another expansion, the third in the game's history, but not until late 2020. Pilots need not despair, however, as there will be smaller updates throughout the time between now and then. The expansion is considered "the next major era of Elite" and that it "will be a defining moment in the history of the game. Developers further write that it will be the biggest update since launch in 2014.

While development of the expansion has been going on since roughly mid-2018, developers aren't ready to share its name or any of the core features players can expect. "We can understand that having a long wait for news can be frustrating, but we truly believe that this will be the single most impactful update for our community...to make Elite Dangerous the most authentic, ambitious, and expansive evolving space game in the world," the blog reads.

The team assures the community that smaller updates and other plans for the game between now and the release of the "monumental milestone". There will be regular game updates and developer-supported events along the way. The blog provides details about both.
