Zenimax Online Studios published a new Q&A developer interview with Elder Scrolls Online combat designer Nadav Pechthold, who dove deep on the studio’s process for creating item sets in ESO.
This interview is part one of a two part interview that will cover how the development team balances item sets and post launch support.
ESO has over 650 item sets and these sets serve an important role in allowing players to customize and improve their builds, granting players a range of benefits from straightforward bonuses or more nuanced enhancements depending on what the player does or the situation they find themselves in.
In the interview, Pechthold explains that the item set creation process involves brainstorming ideas with the team, prototyping the resulting designs making use of assets already found in the game, and gathering feedback from the necessary stakeholders. Sets are also given particular consideration in their designs for their recognizability in both PvE and PvP situations.
Zenimax recently deployed Update 43 for Elder Scrolls Online, introducing Home Tours, a feature that allows players to list their homes for touring and show them off to the community. The update also includes Infinite Archive changes, new class item sets, myriad collectibles and decorations, and more.
