The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) has recently been facing an issue with the game's Endeavors system. The current glitch will often reset the Endeavors available, providing additional rewards to players that complete the new reset Endeavors.
As a brief overview, the ESO Endeavors system, introduced in mid-June 2021 as part of Update 30, allows players to complete daily and weekly tasks known as Endeavors. These tasks, which can range from PvP activities and hunting monsters, to other various in-game activities, reward players with various rewards, including a currency called Seals of Endeavor.
However, a recent glitch has caused daily Endeavors to reset more frequently than intended. The game's developers have acknowledged the issue and are actively investigating solutions. In an official forum post by ZOS_Kevin, the Community Manager for ZeniMax Online Studio and Elder Scrolls Online, players were warned not to exploit this glitch. The post emphasized that while some might encounter the bug during regular gameplay, those who deliberately take advantage of it will face bans. The developers have promised to provide updates once they have more information on a potential fix.
The community's response to this announcement has been mixed. Many players appreciate the transparency and swift acknowledgment of the existing issue (even if it is quite favorable to players). However, some are concerned about the potential for false bans, especially if they unknowingly encounter the bug during their regular gameplay, or don’t realize it’s happening and continue to complete Endeavor’s without realizing it’s an actual bug to begin with. Others are hopeful that the developers will find a solution soon, as the Endeavors system has become a significant part of their daily in-game routine, and delaying the activity in fear of a ban is never ideal.
In our past coverage, we’ve touched on the Endeavors system and how it was a positive addition to the game, offering players new ways to engage and earn rewards like crown crates. It’s going to be crucial for the developers to find a fix promptly so that players can resume their Endeavors without fearing a potential ban for taking "extreme advantage" of the problem.
While glitches and bugs are not uncommon in massive online games like ESO, the way developers handle such issues plays can fundamentally change player’s perceptions of a game. The Elder Scrolls Online team's proactive approach to communicating with their community and addressing concerns is commendable, but as bans may be rolled out due to “exploiting” a bug that many players may not specifically realize is a risk as a ban-able offense, it’s no wonder players are eagerly awaiting further updates on the situation.
