Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco and developer FromSoftware have released a new story trailer for the game’s upcoming (and final) DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree.
While this latest trailer is one dedicated to the DLC’s story, things still remain mysterious in true Elden Ring fashion. That hasn’t stopped many of the game’s players from trying to figure out what’s going on. That said, we do understand some details.
We know Shadow of the Erdtree will be set in the Land of Shadow and that this area is connected to Miquella, a character featured centrally in the trailer. We also see Messmer the Impaler, who appears to be the one behind the destruction in the Land of Shadow, and may be hinted as the DLC’s final boss.
On the gameplay side, the DLC will feature some sort of “level element” mechanic that players can choose to opt-in to in order to maintain a semblance of challenge in the new content for players whose characters have completed multiple New Game+ runs.
FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki suggested in an interview earlier this month that while Erdtree would be the final DLC for Elden Ring, that “there could well be something in the future.”
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will release on June 21 on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC on Steam.
