Elden Ring: Nightreign Is an Unprecedented New Sequel to the Fromsoft Instant Classic

Mostly because they said they weren't working on one

In a surprise to all fans who were pretty sure they said they weren’t going to have a sequel, Elden Ring: Nightreign, a new standalone Elden Ring game by FromSoftware, was announced at The Game Awards via a new gameplay trailer.

It appears that much of the plot, for now, appears to be the player being summoned to handle a world being thrown into darkness by the Night Lord. There’s much of the usual Dark Souls combat and boss fight goodness, plus hints of new characters and the return of the Nameless King for whatever reason.

We did see a decent bit of gameplay (and rolling around), though besides a new plot and land, which is always welcome, we’re not sure what else has changed yet. We do know this’ll come to all the same platforms—that is, Playstation, Xbox and PC—so you can get those thumbs moving again when it’s released in 2025.
