Elden Ring’s upcoming expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, got its first gameplay trailer, and FromSoftware isn’t easing up on the mystery, or the depth in the new content on the way.
Set to release on June 21st, Shadow of the Erdtree is an expansion for a reason. There’s an entire big new map, The Land of Shadow, with its own bosses, new discoveries to be made, puzzles, and much more. From the official description, we know what we’re getting into (and, realistically, we know little at all).
“In ELDEN RING Shadow of the Erdtree players step into the Land of Shadow to explore a new adventure full of mysteries and danger, to confront threatening bosses with new weapons and armor. Follow in the footsteps of Miquella and unravel the dark side of the ELDEN RING story.”
The title reflects this as the Erdree in the Lands Between is, according to Hidetaka Miyazaki in an interview over at IGN, “a land that is overshadowed by the particular Shadow of the Erdtree as opposed to the Erdtree in the Lands Between”.
You need the base game to play, and pre-orders for the expansion are now open. There are several different editions to choose from, including the standard expansion purchase ($39.99) or a bundle with the base game and expansion. PlayStation 5 and Xbox are also getting physical retail versions. The Premium Edition includes the expansion, digital art book, soundtrack. Deluxe version gets the art books and soundtrack for both the base game and the expansion. Finally, there is a $250 Collector's Edition for those who want an 18” statue of Messmer the Impaler, along physical art book and a digital soundtrack.
For those who wanted to extend their time with the challenging, dark, and mysterious lands of Elden Ring, in just a few months, we’ll get to see just what the Shadow conceals.
