Two weeks after the launch of its newest 7.1 patch Final Fantasy 14 has launched its newest Ultimate high-end raid, “Futures Rewritten,” and raiders are off to the races. This time, the usual “World First Race” streamer MogTalks is joined by MMORPG raider esports team Echo Esports to form the live charity marathon for Games for Love.
For the “Futures Unwritten” raid, the World Race is a collaboration between Echo Esports and MogTalk, the latter of which has run these unofficial “World First” races for a while. There are some prizes provided by the streamers, but FFXIV’s dev team typically provides nothing except an official verification of which teams have completed the race in which order.
The charity cause for this race is Games For Love, which claims to be “dedicated to easing suffering, saving lives, and creating sustainable futures for children” that are suffering through illnesses, seemingly similar to charities like Extra Life. At the time of writing, the stream has raised $4,609.
Meanwhile, having stepped into FFXIV after its World of Warcraft fame, Echo itself has a team now, too, featuring what appears to be a team of veterans to these races.
Considered to be the most difficult content in the game, Ultimates are normally non-canon “what if” scenarios that take the original story in another direction requiring completion of the most recent high-end Savage raid “tier.” This time, the story centers on Shadowbringers’ popular Eden raid series, which centers on a talented young woman finding another, who she becomes close beloved friends with, while they and FFXIV’s protagonists figure out how to save another world from a lack of aether—and worse.
The 7.1 update, titled Crossroads, also brought more of the main story, a new Alliance Raid, some major PvP changes, and a host of other updates and changes.
