After the hue and cry over the "pay to win" nature of the Star Wars Battlefront 2 loot boxes late last year, EA has had to rethink its strategy going forward. In a new blog post on the game's official site, developers lay out the details of the new "progression system" coming on March 21st. Of particular note is the fact that loot boxes will no longer be sold and Star Cards will be earned in-game only.
Here are the salient facts:
- Linear Progression - Star Cards can only be earned by playing the game. Players will earn XP for ships, heroes or classes played in multiplayer. When enough experience is gained, players can unlock a Skill Point to upgrade or unlock a Star Card.
- Items already unlocked or earned prior to the arrival of the Progression System will be retained and can still be used.
- Loot Crates will no longer be sold but can be earned through daily log ins, completing Milestones or other timed challenges. Crates will only contain Credits or cosmetic items.
- New appearances will be coming soon that can be purchased with Credits earned while playing or with Crystals, the game's premium currency.
