EA (Electronic Arts) has laid off anywhere from 300 to 400 developers according to multiple sources, in addition to canceling Respawn projects, which included a Titanfall extraction shooter. This is not the first time EA has laid off developers within 2025, with the first round of layoffs impacting BioWare — more specifically the Dragon Age team.
Both IGN and Bloomberg reported that one of the cancelled projects was the aforementioned Titanfall extraction shooter. (Think Escape from Tarkov or Dark and Darker, if you’re unfamiliar with the genre.) However, developers part of the Apex Legends development team were also impacted, as several took to BlueSky to announce they had been let go.
Those remaining at Respawn, according to IGN, will resume working on Apex Legends, the next installment of the Star Wars: Jedi franchise, and provide support on Star Wars: Zero Company.
And yet despite layoffs that have impacted teams working on successful IPs for EA (Titanfall, Apex Legends, Star Wars: Jedi) Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA, was paid approximately $25.6 million in 2024 — with such an exorbitant amount of money, these layoffs could have been prevented if funds were distributed elsewhere. Such as the salaries of the employees working on these projects, or investing in the teams that created such success in the first place.
