The highly-anticipated narrative adventure of Dying Light 2 has been unveiled as Dying Light: The Beast, a new standalone game. This game will be separate from the original zombie apocalypse action survival game Dying Light 2: Staying Human, and was revealed to be the new form of the promised “story DLC,” instead turned into its own game that promises the staples of DL2.
The official site gets into a little more about the development and upcoming release of The Beast. As it explains, The Beast started as DLC to Dying Light, but due to the scope, the team decided to pivot to make this content an independent narrative and game.
“Like many of you, we really wanted to bring Kyle back to do justice to the hero of Harran,” the FAQ explains. “That's how Dying Light: The Beast was born - a self contained zombie survival adventure offering a new setting, new set of gameplay features and new story, culminating in a standalone, 18+ hours adventure.”
This also means that DLC for DL2 production has come to a halt. However, anyone with the Ultimate Edition, which promised a story DLC, will get the game for free separately, and the team hopes “that upgrading your experience from a story DLC to a full standalone game will make up for the time you have been waiting.” Plus, the devs promise to continue the five-year lifespan of the game with updates and events.
Presently, there’s no launch date nor approximate cost, but the Techland team promises these details as soon as possible.
