Dungeons & Dragons Online's First 64-Bit Server Is Now Live, But For Subscribers Only

Dungeons & Dragons Online's first 64-bit server, Cormyr, has opened, though you'll need to be a VIP subscriber to access it.

The new server, which follows in the footsteps of Lord of the Rings Online's first 64-bit servers released earlier this year, promises a "smoother gameplay experience" to players who jump in. It's also a fresh start server, giving players a chance to start over with a new character, as no transfers to and from the new server will be available.

It should be noted that this server is only available to those paying for DDO's VIP subscription, just like the Legendary Servers in The Lord of the Rings Online. This means the player numbers might be lower than a standard server overall, but those players should be more invested in the MMO given they are paying for the ability to access the new 64-bit world, in addition to all its other perks.

Today's server launch coincides with Dungeons & Dragons Online's Lanterns in the Mists event, celebrating Halloween in the MMO. The event, which sees players equip lanterns and reveal hidden Mist Stalker enemies that can only be seen while using these lanterns. Killing the Stalkers will fill the lantern's charge, with certain lanterns requiring more charge to fill and earn rewards.

You can also equip special Skull Lanterns that offer a special "skull badged" version of the rewards regular lanterns, however there is a catch: you have to be level one to obtain a Skull Lantern, and if you die, that lantern is destroyed.

You can check out more info on the official DDO website.
