Dune: Spice Wars, Shiro Games and Funcom’s 4X real-time strategy game set in the Dune universe, has fully unveiled its next playable faction: House Corrino.
House Corrino is a familiar name to anyone who knows the Dune universe, as this house has been leading the Imperum for millenia. Representing this noble and formidable house on this journey to Arrakis is the empire himself: Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV.
The strengths of House Corrino include the elite warriors, the Sardaukar, and a whole lot of political and strategic strength and hold. After all, the house has balanced many competing interests and remained on top for a long time. This Arrakis business might look like a petty squabble to the emperor, but he’s looking to get things sorted out and subdue all who dare challenge him and his authority.
In a release announcing the new faction, the team notes that “Shaddam has become an expert at using his opponents’ ambitions against them”, but he has his own ambitions, paranoia, and lacks a male heir of his own, which are all reason he wants to dominate and get off Arrakis after reminding everyone there who’s in charge.
The advisors of House Corrino include Shaddam’s daughters, Princesses Irulan and Wensicia, Captain Otto Aramsham, and Hasimir Fenring. Captain Aramsham leads the Sardaukar forces and an expert on warfare with these units, as well as supporting his warrior legions through training that includes using some conscripts as cannon fodder. This should keep some in line. Hasimir Fenring is a deadly fighter, friend of the emperor, and a trained assassin mentat.
With House Corrino, they have a lot of sway and power, even in terms of potentially manipulating the market or other ways of influencing the other factions. If they need to, or want to pull a fast one, they have an immense and strong military force, with some elite units that specialize in shock tactics.
