With launch coming in May, the Dune: Awakening devs continue to drip out more info and preview what’s possible in the upcoming survival MMO. The latest dev video, "Exploring Arrakis", not only takes us to “the most dangerous planet in the universe”, but also some of the ways you can learn to survive in this big, ever-changing desert open world.
While yes, Arrakis is a desert planet, one thing the new video does emphasize is that there’s more there to discover too. Water is, of course, a precious resource, but you'll be able to scan for other resources and materials in smaller ranges to start, in order to build a base and tools you’ll need.
The video certainly emphasizes the importance of exploration, and your capabilities to do so will expand with the more resources and technology you discover or learn how to craft. This could mean vehicles, including an ornithopter to get you to high places, and probes to give you current info on wilder areas.
And ‘ever-changing’ should be taken literally, as Coriolis storms happen regularly and they change the map every time. Every week, the places you know might look very different, and sometimes there will be new resources, new locations, and valuable discoveries uncovered by the moving sands. Maybe you'll find a shipwreck or an imperial test station, or enough resources to sell to other players to give you more power. Perhaps you'll also find ways to gain favor with your allies.
Dune: Awakening’s character creator and benchmarking mode are already available on Steam, and the game releases on May 20th.
