Dune: Awakening now has an official release date: May 20, 2025, and the team at Funcom is making sure everyone is caught up on the latest information with their sixth Communinet Signal. Not only did the team confirm the long-anticipated launch but they also dropped a series of exciting announcements and community highlights as the survival MMO nears its release.

If you've been excited to jump into the game, then you can get a head start now by downloading the character creator on Steam. Craft your character and get ready to plan your path ahead of time so you won't waste any moments fiddling with the character creator on launch. The character creator includes benchmark mode, which you'll certainly want to run to ensure your PC is capable for the best performance. Completing your character also unlocks an exclusive Frameblade knife skin and grants access to Benchmark Mode to test your hardware for Arrakis.

Funcom also introduced some digital postcards—as if anyone will be vacationing on Arrakis, but they are a nice touch to get players pumped to check out some of the locales headed our way.

The team rounded out the communinet signal with a vehicle spotlight where they took a deep dive into the carrier ornithopter. If you're looking for a breakdown of the components of this iconic vehicle, there's plenty of labeled concept art to keep you busy. Just remember that despite the ornithopters speed and agility, it's highly unlikely you'll be able to outrun a sandstorm, so always keep your head on a swivel when you're beyond the shield wall.

If you're as excited as we are about the upcoming sci-fi survival MMO, there's no better time than now to jump in and start creating your character. The base game will retail for 49.99, with the team stating you can expect pre-orders to begin any day now.
