Gamescom is approaching at breakneck speed it seems, and there’s much to look forward to including a new Dune: Awakening gameplay presentation during Opening Night Live. According to recent tweets by Funcom, it looks like we’re going to encounter some never-before-seen gameplay, but will it be enough to satisfy the hordes of players salivating to get their hands on the game?
Funcom has had several gameplay presentations in the past, many of which we’ve been fortunate enough to attend. However, up to this point, Funcom has been hesitant to let players get their hands on their upcoming game that delves deeply into an alternative timeline of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novels. That isn’t to say that we haven’t seen ample gameplay at this point, but what has been shown has been a carefully curated look into the world that Funcom has created for Dune: Awakening.
DUNE AWAKENING is coming to @gamescom Opening Night Live on Tuesday, August 20. Tune in for an extended look at the gameplay. The show streams at 11a PT / 2p ET / 8p CEST at https://t.co/AFycLZGHNd@DuneAwakening #DuneAwakening pic.twitter.com/IHXFajsVYo

The veteran studio is poised to show off more gameplay that was not shown at any of the previous presentations during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live which premieres August 20th, 2024 at 2pm EST. For those attending Gamescom, there will be a booth and presentations there as well, though it has yet to be divulged whether there will be any actual hands-on gameplay for fans frequenting the booth. In our previous interviews with the team, Funcom has stated that testing has been ongoing since late 2023, and that it is in a persistent closed beta at this point.
However, the team at Funcom still seems squeamish to open up testing or unravel the NDA that protects the fans outside of Arrakis from hearing about what the game is like. It may still be too early to determine whether a release target is looming for Dune: Awakening despite the influx of gameplay presentations the team has coordinated, but at least this gives aspiring players something to look forward to in the near future.
