In Dune: Awakening, building on Arrakis will be a key part of your experience, and the Funcom team’s stream yesterday gave an in-depth look at the many skills you’ll need to learn and proactively use to not just build your base, but to expand it and to survive on the harsh planet.
Funcom says that their team’s experience on Conan Exiles had a big impact on the building systems that they've put into place here. You'll start with a sub-fief console, a small shelter to protect you in basic ways, including to shield from the sun.
Bit by bit, you'll get opportunities to continue to develop your base and expand it, fueled by the expansion of your crafting skills and abilities. You'll learn how to manage elements like ahield status, power consumption, capacity, your water storage, storm alerts, and more to stay on top of things. Learning more skills will let you expand your capabilities, including things like refining blood into precious water and building better technology.
However, you can’t simply expand indefinitely, as eventually you'll run up against other people's bases. You can play solo or join with others in co-op building and potentially create almost a collective as a strategic move.
The team also has a new blog diving into the architecture, influenced in its visual design by which Great House you align with (and the Dune film series).
Today, the devs released a shorter video (above) summarizing some of what you need to know, but the full stream is available to watch if you want to go very in-depth and see gameplay and the systems you’ll use when Dune: Awakening launches on June 10th.
To get us ready, they've been revealing a ton of info as well as new gameplay piece all of this leading up to the huge weekend beta test next month.
