Dual Universe will be getting an official standalone client, according to a new post by Novaquark, called myDU.
“With the myDU client, you will be able to host your own Dual Universe server and/or connect to other players’ private servers,” the announcement reads. “This version of myDU will give you the freedom to play Dual Universe without a subscription.”
While players won’t be able to access the MMO servers without that subscription, they’ll be able to do a bit of traditional sandboxing, including unlimited resources and toggling server-wide PvP. It’s also unclear for the moment what sort of private server compatibility myDU will have.
In the MMORPG genre’s context, it’s good in case Dual Universe’s servers go down, as MMORPG developers and publishers have had mixed desires to implement an “offline mode” or allow private servers. It becomes a question especially while Novaquark sees less updates pushed to the game in the past half year or so, with the last formal update, 1.4, pushed over a year ago in June 2023.
Obviously, this standalone client with private server compatibility immediately stems that concern of accessing the game’s complex building systems that made it known to begin with.
The team estimates this myDU standalone client will be available sometime mid-August.
