A new video game company titled Dreamhaven has been founded by former CEO Mike Morhaime, and two new studios have been announced. The new company is free from Activision, and is made up of a host of former Blizzard developers.
The two announced studios, Moonshot Games and Secret Door are compiled from developers with heavy industry experience. At this time, no new titles have been announced from either of the two new studios that have been created. A statement from Mike Morhaime on the official Dreamhaven site signifies his excitement for the studios and potential upcoming projects:
“I’m excited to team up with such talented people who care deeply about games and their communities. I’ve always believed in the power of games to bring people together regardless of backgrounds or boundaries. With Dreamhaven, we look forward to creating and sharing new experiences with players everywhere.”
A number of developers have left over the years as Activision has reportedly changed the way that Blizzards process works, and the overall culture within the company. In a post regarding the changes within Blizzand and how those changes ostracized many developers, a tweet from Jason Shreier provides some context to the exodus.
Activision’s mandate for Blizzard had become to cut costs and produce more games, which turned off a lot of veteran staff. For more context, two pieces I wrote back in 2018: https://t.co/la61HsDDga https://t.co/H8lDRqzCIl
