The arrival of LuckCatchers2 on Steam marks a step forward for the team after they ended development of LuckCatchers in 2021 and shut down the servers June 1st, 2023. The game intends to build on the marginal success of its predecessor with the sequel expanding the open-world experience.
Set in a vast world stretching over 1,000,000 square kilometers, players will immerse themselves in a realm where magic and technology intertwine. Character development is pivotal in LuckCatchers 2. Players start their journey by choosing from various races, with each race influencing their initial position in one of the world's capitals. Unlike most MMORPGs, LuckCatchers 2 takes place completely in the air, where you’ll be tasked with piloting airships of all different types.
Aircrafts are central to gameplay in LuckCatchers 2. From heavy yachts to nimble warships, each class of airship offers different capabilities and strategic advantages. Players will also do normal MMO-like activities such as setting up guilds, control territories, and build your own settlements. However, keep your head on a swivel as the world of LuckCatchers 2 is also filled with dragons that roam the skies, and you’ll have to protect yourself, and your friends, from the gigantic monsters.
Currently LuckCatchers 2 is available on Steam as a free to play title. The game launched on January 3, 2024, and is developed and published by Alab Toys LLC, though the original developers, Russian Team DiP Online, has stated that they are in active development of the title. The game essentially utilizes much of the same features of LuckCatchers with a few enhancements to the world and features. The game has hit an all-time high of 25 players on Steam since its launch a few days ago (as of this article), and sits at a mixed review rating, which follows the average reviews of LuckCatchers. Currently the game is skewing heavily to a Russian audience, despite English and Chinese translations and audio being available.
Players have also mentioned that Luckcatchers 2 has experienced a few server issues during their launch period, with multiple server crashes creating some unfortunate instability. With a unique blend of airship play, strategy, and character and settlement development set in a completely aerial world, LuckCatchers 2 may be worth a shot for those that have played LuckCatchers or if you’re looking for something completely different. You just may want to wait until Alab Toys LLC figures out their launch woes first.
