Dragon Age: Dreadwolf has a new name, Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The new name accompanies an announcement that BioWare will keep to its promise of more in summer 2024 with a gameplay reveal and more details on June 11th.
There has been much speculation recently, what with all of the gaming-related events and reveals set for this month. That speculation was not so much whether the next Dragon Age game would get some sort of reveal, but when and how.
Now we know. BioWare’s Gary McKay confirmed the new title, along with some details to tease the June 11th reveal, in a new blog. He tells the story of the journey to get to where the team has come with the game, including a number of explorations, including long-rumored scrapped multiplayer additions, to fine tune things into the single-player game that they are about to reveal.
As for what’s coming, The Veilguard will introduce another new hero for you to make your own, and will introduce seven companions. On Tuesday, June 11th, at 8:00 a.m. Pacific, the Dragon Age YouTube channel will feature more than 15 minutes of gameplay from the early part of the game.
The title change came as the team wanted to focus on those companions, and your hero, along with their journey:
“You’ll unite this team of unforgettable heroes as you take on a terrifying new threat unleashed on the world. Naturally, the Dread Wolf still has an important part in this tale, but you and your companions – not your enemies – are the heart of this new experience.”
McKay told IGN that, “We actually think sticking with Dreadwolf would have been the safer choice – ‘Dread Wolf’ is a cool name after all!” but the journey and the companions are that central, “more than ever”.
“You and your companions – that make up The Veilguard – are central to taking down a new evil threat unleashed upon Thedas. It might not just be Solas,” McKay teases.
