After years of anticipation from fans of the fantasy RPG franchise, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has finally shared a Halloween 2024 release date with a new trailer and physical collector packs.
Talking about the trailer too in-depth, even from its opening line, will invoke a serious avalanche of spoilers. However, in short, when a ritual is broken, the corrupted Elven gods are unleashed upon the world, and the player must bring together the Veilguard to fight back.
The trailer shows appearances from a number of old beloved characters, including some that were kept well under wraps—so if you don’t want those spoiled, it’s recommended you keep away for a bit.
Per a BioWare dev “Journal,” the game will have an internationally simultaneous release, with exact times to come soon. The devs will also be unveiling a lot more in the next two or so months until release, including a “Companions Week” and developer Q&A on Discord.
There’ll also be a deluxe edition and not one but Physical Item Bundles, all of which are sold separately from the game itself. One edition includes more novelty goodies, including a light-up dagger, map, potion flask, die, and more. Two are more for the more serious type of gamer, with an outerbox, notebook, metal “print” and steel case, and the other being an artbook with several editions available.
Veilguard has had a somewhat troubled development history. Early in 2023, there were leaks of an alpha version of the game; later that year, its parent development company, BioWare, saw layoffs that were so bad on EA’s behalf, they saw a lawsuit. There has also been general nitpicky fandom criticisms of game elements, plus the fact that Veilguard had exclusive coverage only meant for the now-shuttered Game Informer magazine.
With Veilguard’s release finally less than three months away, fans can let out their held breaths… though surely they’ll inhale again to have something to say about it.
