EverQuest II’s annual expansion, Scars of Destruction, is almost here. The devs held a reveal stream to dive into the expansion and what to expect, along with a community Q&A.
For the 20th anniversary, the expansion is going to draw from the history of EverQuest II. This has been something they've done before, but this time they challenged themselves again. Their strategy is taking us to familiar places but in different ways and in adding to them, like Odus and Velious and “lore from all over the place using all sorts of characters”. Their goals were to add something new to places that's still feel familiar enough.
There’s intentional verticality in the expansion. One of Scars of Destruction’s original concepts was more on icicle forest, yet it didn’t stick. They didn't want to have caves and lock everything in but wanted to give a sense of mystery where you feel like there's something hidden that you need to find. We also get a peek at the dragon graveyard and the big Dragon Necropolis dungeon entrance. If you don't want to be spoiled on the locations or some of the creatures or what else we can expect, including where the expansion story will take us, then maybe you should watch the stream after you've played.
If you do want to know more about the design process, how they pulled from EverQuest II’s 20-year history, to lend a sense of mystery, depth, and to use that nostalgia as a jumping off point to play with lore and create something new, Then this extended stream is for you.
Scars of Destruction is out on November 20th.
